Express Entry

In January 2015 Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) had announced its new Permanent Residency program called Express Entry for skilled workers interested in Immigrating to Canada. This new program comprises of the same skilled worker programs such as, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker, and the Federal Skilled Trades Class. Applicants will be assessed on a new scale of factors using a ranking system called the Comprehensive Ranking System. Applicants who score a high enough ranking will be issued an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residency.

Express Entry in a Nutshell
1. Determine your Eligibility

Applicants must qualify in at least one of the three programs listed below:
Canadian Experience Class| Federal Skilled Worker | Federal Skilled Trade Program

2. Placement
Eligible candidates are added to a pool of candidates and ranked according to a points system.

3. Comprehensive Ranking System

Accompanying Spouse/Common-law partner 460 points 40 points 100 points 600 points

Candidates who qualify will be ranked on several factors including, Education, Work Experience and Language proficiency. Additional points will be awarded to those who have a job offer or a nomination letter under the Provincial Nominee Program.

4. Comprehensive Ranking System formula

In order to be Invited to Apply (ITA) for Permanent Residency, the CRS ranks eligible candidates under the following criteria:

Principal or Single applicant core factors;
Accompanying spouse/common-law partner factors;
Skills and experience factors;
Skills transferability (combination of work experience and education resulting in higher chances of employability and higher salaries) and;
Additional points for those with a valid Job Offer or a Nomination from a province or territory.
Each applicant either single or with accompanying spouse/common-law partner is ranked out of a total of 1,200 points.
